SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
IJG Trails
Effective 1 January 2016, IJG is the title sponsor of Farm Windhoek and will have all naming rights to Farm Windhoek. Farm Windhoek is located along the Auas Mountains, just south of Windhoek. It provides for outdoor activities for the whole family, with over 70 kilometers of trails suitable for mountain biking, hiking, trail running, dog walking and bird watching.
IJG sees this as an ideal opportunity to give back and invest in the community by making recreational areas such as Farm Windhoek safer and more accessible to the Windhoek community.
IJG is extremely proud to be associated with the Namibian Scholars’ Challenge. This initiative introduces students to capital markets and portfolio management in a simulated real life environment. In this way, IJG contributes to educating the Namibian youth about opportunities in the financial services environment and hopes to stimulate interest in further studies towards joining the industry.
Annual Charity Dealing Day
Since 2002 IJG has raised more than N$1m for Namibian charities through IJG’s Annual Charity Dealing Day. On the annual Charity Dealing Day IJG donates all proceeds from that day’s dealing to worthy charities across Namibia, thereby making a significant and focused contribution to social projects of enduring benefit. When identifying charities as recipients of these proceeds, IJG has focused on certain themes across the years. These themes have in the past included Children, The Elderly and Education.
We are pleased to be associated with the following charities, to some of which IJG has contributed Charity Dealing Day proceeds since 2002:
Christina Swart Opperman Aids Orphan Foundation Trust

INVESTMENT PHILOSOPHY
ACTIVE + PASSIVE
At IJG we weigh the merits and shortcomings of both active and passive investing approaches and make use of more cost-effective passive products in more efficient markets while making use of “best in breed” active asset managers with proven track records in markets where we believe excess returns can be consistently generated.
ASSET ALLOCATION
At IJG we believe asset allocation is the key investment decision. We carefully balance the expected returns and potential risks of each asset class to build a portfolio that has a strong probability of meeting the investor’s long-term objectives with the lowest risk profile through efficient diversification. We make use of tried and tested portfolio construction techniques, rigorous backtesting and years of experience to ensure our client's investment goals are reached.
CONSISTENCY
IJG believes that consistency is key to successful investing. We believe that a steady, consistent approach will result in the best outcomes for our clients in meeting their investment goals over time. This involves having a predetermined investment process and sticking to it, ignoring the noise of short term fluctuations and sentiment in the market.
FEES
As with any product or service, there are fees and costs attached to investing. Although fees normally seem small, costs add up and compound over time. As a result, investment fees are one of the most important determinants of investment performance. At IJG we aim to provide solutions with a total expense ratio (TER) of less than 1.5%. We don’t charge performance fees, advice fees or penalty fees and aim to provide clear and transparent pricing on all our services.
OUR OFFERING
IJG offers a wide range of segregated portfolios for institutional clients, including a variety of single asset class portfolios and asset allocation portfolios.
EQUITY
We offer a wide range of equity portfolio options including JSE and NSX listed equities, dual-listed portfolios, index tracking and offshore solutions.
FIXED INCOME
IJG provides access to Namibian and South African Government and corporate bonds as well as inflation-linked solutions.
MONEY MARKET
We offer Namibian Dollar, South African Rand and U.S. Dollar based money market solutions. These funds provide stable returns, high liquidity and a low level of risk.
MULTI MANAGED
IJG makes use of either best in breed asset managers or index funds and combines these investments to create multi-manager portfolios specific to the needs of each client.

During 2001, he opened an office for Mettle in Namibia, which was then taken over by Pointbreak Namibia as part of an MBO. Herbert played an instrumental role, both as shareholder and joint CEO, in the growth of Pointbreak in Namibia, where he was heavily involved in debt structuring, as well as debt and equity-based fundraising involving both the private and parastatal sectors. At the end of July 2009 Herbert left Pointbreak to establish Greenhouse Financial Advisors, which focused on corporate and transaction advice (including turnaround strategies for ailing businesses), and debt restructuring.
Herbert’s 35-year track record stretches from business valuations and restructuring, through capital raising and corporate finance support to best-practice advice on privatisations, debt issuance, debt restructuring and private equity.
In addition to serving as a director on several of IJG’s portfolio companies, he spearheaded Namibia’s first local direct investment into a grid-tied utility-scale solar PV plant. Herbert has wide-ranging industry and strategy experience.
Jolyon Irwin founded IJG in 1996 and was the MD until the sale of IJG to Pointbreak in 2006. Jolyon was also instrumental in the establishment and listing of Stimulus Investments, Namibia’s first private equity vehicle and initiative, and was a Member of the NSX and the JSE. Following the sale of IJG in 2006 Jolyon moved to Mauritius to focus on various unlisted equity opportunities and develop a structured finance business. Jolyon continues to focus on unlisted equity opportunities and re-joined IJG in 2012.
