The\nfirst half of 2021 has observed a total of 4,893 total vehicle sales, of which 2,277\nwere passenger vehicles, 2,218 light commercial vehicles, and 398 medium and\nheavy commercial vehicles. By comparison, the first half of 2020 saw 3,516 new\nvehicles sold. On a twelve-month cumulative basis, a total of 8,991 new\nvehicles were sold as at June 2021, representing a 4.4% expansion from the 8,609\nsold over the comparable period a year ago.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1471\" height=\"727\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/ijg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-69.png?fit=740%2C366&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28644\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-69.png 1471w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-69-300x148.png 300w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-69-768x380.png 768w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-69-1024x506.png 1024w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-69-250x124.png 250w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-69-150x74.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1471px) 100vw, 1471px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-very-dark-gray-color\"><a>A total of 430 new passenger vehicles were sold during June,\na 20.1% increase from the 358 passenger vehicles sold in May. Year-to-date, 2,277\npassenger vehicles have been sold, which translates to a 48.9% increase from\nthe same period in 2020. On a rolling 12-month basis, passenger vehicle sales rose\nto 3,958, 9.3% higher than in June 2020.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1468\" height=\"659\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/ijg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-70.png?fit=740%2C332&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28645\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-70.png 1468w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-70-300x135.png 300w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-70-768x345.png 768w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-70-1024x460.png 1024w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-70-250x112.png 250w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-70-150x67.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1468px) 100vw, 1468px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-very-dark-gray-color\"><a>A total of 413 new commercial\nvehicles were sold in June, representing a decline of 4.4% m\/m. 3,311 Light\ncommercial vehicles, 19 medium commercial vehicles, and 63 heavy and extra\nheavy commercial vehicles were sold during the month. Light commercial vehicle\nsales dropped 10.8% m\/m, medium commercial vehicle sales rose 26.7% m\/m, and\nheavy commercial vehicle sales increased by 37.0% m\/m. On a twelve-month\ncumulative basis, light commercial vehicle sales have declined by 0.3% y\/y,\nmedium commercial vehicles fell by 21.8% y\/y, and heavy commercial vehicles\nincreased by 27.1% y\/y, although the increase is from a very low base.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1432\" height=\"756\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/ijg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-71.png?fit=740%2C391&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28646\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-71.png 1432w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-71-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-71-768x405.png 768w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-71-1024x541.png 1024w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-71-250x132.png 250w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-71-150x79.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1432px) 100vw, 1432px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-very-dark-gray-color\"><a>Toyota surpassed Volkswagen in terms of year-to-date\nmarket share of new passenger vehicles sold, recording a 29.0% market share.\nVolkswagen dropped to second place with a 28.3% market share, compared to the\n31.2% share in May. Kia and Hyundai followed, with 8.6% and 5.8% of the market,\nrespectively, leaving the remaining 28.3% of the market to other brands.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"979\" height=\"767\" src=\"https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-72.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28647\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-72.png 979w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-72-300x235.png 300w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-72-768x602.png 768w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-72-191x150.png 191w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-72-150x118.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 979px) 100vw, 979px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On a\nyear-to-date basis, Toyota maintained its dominance in the light commercial\nvehicle space with a 53.8% market share, Ford climbed to second place with\n13.5% of the market, followed by Nissan, with a market share of 13.4%. Mercedes\nleads the medium commercial vehicle segment with 32.0% of sales year-to-date. Scania\nremained number one in the heavy and extra-heavy commercial vehicle segment\nwith 25.5% of the market share year-to-date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-very-dark-gray-color\"><a><strong>The Bottom Line<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>June was a respectable month for new\nvehicle sales, despite a raging third wave of Covid-19 infections in the\ncountry, coupled with the introduction of new lockdown restrictions. An average\nof 379 new passenger vehicles were sold per month in the first half of 2021, which\nis well above the average of 254 in the comparable period of 2020, but still\ntrails slightly below the average of 411 in the first 6 months of 2019. On the\ncommercial front, total commercial vehicle sales in the first half of the year\nare 31.7% higher than the comparable period in 2020, with light and medium\ncommercial vehicle sales increasing by 25.6% and 22.0% year-on-year,\nrespectively, while heavy commercial vehicle sales recorded the largest\nincrease of 114.4% y\/y. Despite these increases, the commercial sector lags\nwell behind the comparable period\u2019s 10-year pre-Covid-19 average (2010-2019)\nwhen total new commercial vehicle sales were 50.1% higher than they are now.\nOverall, this reflects a long path to recovery in the commercial sector. &nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>843 new vehicles were sold in June, an increase of 6.4% m\/m from the 790 vehicles sold in May.
