In monetary terms,\nthe approvals were valued at N$173.0 million, a 26.1% m\/m decrease. 183\nbuildings with a value of N$67.13 million were completed during May, a 27.9%\nm\/m decrease in value terms. Year-to-date building approvals are 66.3% and 24.8%\nhigher in number and value terms, respectively, than during the same period in\n2020. This increase is however mostly due to stagnant construction activity during\nthe lockdown last year. Year-to-date, the number of completed buildings\nincreased by 23.3% y\/y to 678, while the value of these completions fell marginally\nby 3.6% y\/y from N$380.0 million in 2020 to N$366.5 million in 2021. On a\ntwelve-month cumulative basis, 2,684 buildings with the value of N$2.01 billion\nwere approved, an increase of 47.7% y\/y in number, and 10.7% y\/y in value. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1161\" height=\"604\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ijg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-63.png?fit=740%2C385&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28561\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-63.png 1161w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-63-300x156.png 300w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-63-768x400.png 768w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-63-1024x533.png 1024w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-63-250x130.png 250w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-63-150x78.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1161px) 100vw, 1161px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In May, 105 additions to properties\nwere approved with a value of N$55.4 million<ins>,<\/ins>\nwhile 125 additions worth N$28.1 million were completed during the month, as\nthe category continues as the main contributor to the total approvals and\ncompletions. Additions to properties approved fell 36.7% m\/m in number and\n40.4% m\/m in value terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1123\" height=\"538\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/ijg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-64.png?fit=740%2C355&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-64.png 1123w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-64-300x144.png 300w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-64-768x368.png 768w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-64-1024x491.png 1024w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-64-250x120.png 250w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-64-150x72.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1123px) 100vw, 1123px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNew\nresidential units were the second largest contributor to the total number of\nbuilding plans approved in May, and the largest contributor in value terms. 78\nnew units worth N$92.6 million were approved in May, representing a 28.5% m\/m decrease\nfrom the N$129.5 million worth of approvals in April. On a 12-month cumulative\nbasis, residential units approvals recorded a 125.3% y\/y increase in value. 58 new\nresidential units worth N$39.0 million were completed during the month,\nrepresenting an increase in value of 17.7% m\/m<ins>,<\/ins> but\na decrease of 21.6% y\/y. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1181\" height=\"591\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/ijg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-65.png?fit=740%2C370&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-65.png 1181w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-65-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-65-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-65-1024x512.png 1024w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-65-250x125.png 250w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-65-150x75.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1181px) 100vw, 1181px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Four new commercial units, valued at\nN$25.0 million, were approved in May, translating to a 115.3% m\/m increase in\nvalue terms. Year-to-date, there have been sixteen commercial building\napprovals valued at N$51.1 million, which is 33.3% lower in number terms and a 79.3%\ndecrease in value terms compared to the same period last year. On a rolling\n12-month perspective, the number of commercial and industrial approvals have\nslowed to 33 units worth N$135.3 million as at May, compared to the 56 approved\nunits worth N$652.9 million over the corresponding period a year ago. A total of 2,684 building plans to the value of N$2.01\nbillion were approved over the last 12 months, representing an increase in\nvalue of 10.7% y\/y. Additions to properties have made up 64.0% of the\ncumulative number of approvals, but only 38.4% of the total value of approvals.\nCompleted building plans increased 17.0% y\/y in value terms to N$1.52billion on\na 12-month cumulative basis in May.
