In\nmonetary terms, the approvals were valued at N$142.5 million, a decrease of N$82.4\nmillion compared to last month. The number of completions for the month of\nMarch stood at 275, valued at N$218.4 million. The year-to-date value of\napproved building plans reached N$556.7 million, 3.1% lower than in the first\nquarter of 2019. On a twelve-month cumulative basis, 2,035 building plans have\nbeen approved as at the end of March, a decrease of 7.2% y\/y. The 12-month\ncumulative value of plans approved reached approximately N$1.97 billion, a\ndecrease of 0.5% y\/y.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1055\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ijg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-134.png?fit=740%2C350&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25047\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-134.png 1055w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-134-300x142.png 300w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-134-768x364.png 768w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-134-1024x485.png 1024w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-134-250x118.png 250w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-134-150x71.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1055px) 100vw, 1055px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Additions to properties made up 154 of\nthe total 169 approved building plans recorded in March. This is a 6.1% m\/m\ndecrease in additions from the 164 additions recorded in February. In the first\nquarter of the year 416 additions to properties have been approved with a value\nof N$172.9 million, a 28.2% y\/y drop in terms of value. 241 additions worth N$190.0\nmillion were completed during the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1051\" height=\"496\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/ijg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/3-136.png?fit=740%2C349&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25048\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/3-136.png 1051w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/3-136-300x142.png 300w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/3-136-768x362.png 768w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/3-136-1024x483.png 1024w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/3-136-250x118.png 250w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/3-136-150x71.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1051px) 100vw, 1051px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Only 10 new\nresidential units were approved in March, 18 units fewer than in February and the\nlowest number of approvals in a single month since December 2015. In value\nterms, N$10.5 million worth of residential units were approved in March, 90.3%\nless than the N$108.6 million worth of residential approvals in February. 55\nNew residential units have been approved in the first quarter of 2020, 38.2%\nless than during the corresponding period in 2019. The year-to-date value of\nresidential approvals reached N$136.9 million, 43.3% lower than during the\nfirst quarter of 2019. 33 new residential units worth N$22.9 million were\ncompleted during the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1062\" height=\"502\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/ijg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/4-133.png?fit=740%2C350&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25049\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/4-133.png 1062w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/4-133-300x142.png 300w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/4-133-768x363.png 768w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/4-133-1024x484.png 1024w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/4-133-250x118.png 250w, https:\/\/ijg.net\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/4-133-150x71.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1062px) 100vw, 1062px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Commercial and industrial building\nplans approved in March amounted to 5 units, worth N$89.1 million. This is 8\nunits fewer than approved in the prior month, but an increase of 306.2% m\/m and\n1,355.1% y\/y in value terms, although this is from a low base. Year-to-date, 24\nplans for commercial and industrial purposes have been approved, valued at N$247.0\nmillion. On a rolling 12-month perspective the number of commercial and\nindustrial approvals have increased to 63 units as at March, compared to the 38\napproved over the corresponding period a year ago.
